8 Points in Flensburg?

When license revocation is imminent. Your options and rights.

Are You Facing License Revocation?

At 8 points in the driving fitness register (Fahreignungsregister) in Flensburg, your driver's license is revoked. You should act well before that, and there are ways to reduce your score.

The Points System at a Glance

  • 1 to 3 points (Vormerkung). No consequences, but you should be careful.
  • 4 to 5 points (Ermahnung). You receive a written warning and are informed of the option to voluntarily attend a driving fitness seminar (Fahreignungsseminar).
  • 6 to 7 points (Verwarnung). You receive a written caution and are informed that your driver's license will be revoked once you reach 8 points.
  • 8 points (revocation). Your driver's license is revoked.

Ways to Reduce Points

  • Driving fitness seminar (Fahreignungsseminar). With up to 5 points, 1 point can be removed once every 5 years.
  • Wait for the expiry periods. Depending on the type of offense, points are deleted after 2.5 years, 5 years, or 10 years. The applicable expiry period depends in particular on the severity of the offense and the underlying decision.
  • Have the penalty notice (Bußgeldbescheid) reviewed in time. Points are only registered once the penalty notice becomes legally binding. An appeal is generally possible within two weeks of delivery. A timely appeal can prevent registration.
  • Keep an eye on your point status. Measures under the driving fitness assessment system already begin at 4 points. You can request your current point status free of charge from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt). I am happy to review with you what legal consequences result from your point status and what options for action exist.
  • Check for measurement and procedural errors. Not every penalty notice is lawful.
  • Seek legal advice early. The higher your point status, the more important a legal review becomes. Legal support can be decisive even before you reach 8 points.

After Revocation: Reissuing the Driver's License

After revocation, you must wait at least 6 months before you can apply for a new license. In some circumstances, a medical-psychological assessment (MPU) may be ordered. I will advise you on the requirements and guide you through the process.
